A Benefit for the Peka Project

Today, Michael shared news that he - and Lexa Doig - are participating in a virtual event to raise funds for the Peka Project under which Beautiful Gate Orphanage is “building a working farm, home, and school for children from six to eighteen who remain unadopted and have fallen through the cracks of the broken Lesotho (located in South Africa) foster system...to offer these children a chance at a flourishing life.”

The event website describes the fundraiser as follows:

“Academy Award winner, Tony winner, and Pulitzer Prize winner John Patrick Shanley and a stellar cast of ten actors have joined the PEKA PROJECT to create a virtual live fundraiser presentation: actors will perform scenes from the film and theatre work of John Patrick Shanley - spanning his career.

After the performance, the audience will have chance to interact with the writer and cast via a live Q&A session.

Ten actors. Five scenes. The writer. An audience of fans. All virtual.

All for the Children of Lesotho.”

The event, An Evening of Scenes from Shanley, is a one-off exclusive virtual presentation that will be held on Zoom on Saturday, February 12th (5pm - 7pm EST | 2pm - 4pm PST).

For more information, including a video with background information about the Orphanage and the amazing work they are doing for the children in Lesotho, and - importantly - a means to donate to the fundraiser and receive a link to watch the performance, go to event website.

If you cannot financially support the fundraiser at this time, please consider spreading the word on social media, and help this amazing group reach their fundraising goal. (Check the website for social media links.)

A Stargate Revival?

From right to left: Michael Shanks, Richard Dean Anderson, Amanda Tapping and Christopher Judge in “Stargate SG-1.”

Following the AI-driven script table read this past weekend, SyFy Wire have posted an exclusive update on the potential future for the “Stargate” universe.

While there have been unrealized hopes in the past that “Stargate” would make it back to our screens, according to the series co-creator Brad Wright, it’s not the time to give up hope for a revival. Per the article:

“Long before there were multiple “Star Treks” on the air at the same time, as there are right now, we had “Stargate SG-1” and “Stargate: Atlantis” on Friday night at the same time. That's something that has become a bit of a big deal in science fiction television," Wright tells SYFY WIRE. "I can't imagine Amazon [who now own the universe] not doing something with the franchise, or empowering MGM to do something with the franchise for [them]."

To read the full article/interview on SyFy Wire’s website. And be sure to quote tweet their Tweet and let your voice be heard if you’re excited by the idea of “Stargate” - with Daniel Jackson - returning to the screen!

Stargate Script Reunion - Bleeding Cool News

Bleeding Cool News have picked up the news of the Stargate AI-drive script read in which Michael is participating. Per their site:

“What might start initially as good, harmless fun or an ominous precedent of “Twilight Zone”-like proportions, four actors from the “Stargate” will participate in a unique table read driven by The Companion, an AI that has been fed script from the franchise’s past. Led by TV franchise creator Brad Wright and Google AI’s Laurence Moroney, teh collaborative project produced a comprehensive script that will be read by stars from “SG-1” and “Atlantis,” which ironically enough are two of the more scientifically driven characters from both series.”
